Natural Carpet Cleaning: What You Should Know

When you are a person who wants to keep your house a healthy and clean environment for yourself and your family, you likely prefer natural cleaning and home maintenance solution rather than standard chemical ones. As such, you may find yourself looking for natural yet effective ways to clean your carpets. Get to know some of the natural carpet cleaning methods that you can try yourself or have carpet cleaning services use in your home so that you can have naturally clean carpets that are safe and healthy for you and your family.

Use A White Vinegar Solution

Distilled white vinegar is one of the most versatile items that you can have in your home. Not only can it be used in cooking, but it is also a highly effective natural cleaner and stain remover. As such, it can be one of the best ways to clean your carpets naturally and safely.

To clean your carpets using white vinegar, you will want to dilute it and create a carpet cleaning solution rather than using pure white vinegar. To do this you will also need water and salt. If you so choose, you can also add pure essential oils to your solution that have a pleasant aroma such as lavender, orange, or lemon.

Your solution should be made up of two parts water for every one part of white vinegar. So, if you have one cup of vinegar, you will want to use two cups of water. Add a teaspoon of salt for every part of water, and then about 10 to 15 drops of essential oils total if you choose to add them.

Once your solution is mixed, you can spray your carpets with it and allow the solution to soak in and dry. Vacuum your carpets thoroughly once the carpet is dry and you will have fresh clean carpets. You can also add the solution to a steam cleaner rather than spray your carpets directly if you are looking to deep clean.

Use Baking Soda

Baking soda is another natural product that can work wonders on your carpets. It is a natural deodorizer and can even help remove stains from your carpet. There are several ways that you can use baking soda in your carpet cleaning routine.

For daily or weekly carpet cleaning and deodorizing, sprinkle baking soda all over the surface of your carpet and simply vacuum it up as if it were store-bought carpet powder. If you have really ground in smells that you want to get rid of, you can mix your baking soda with the previously mentioned essential oils and perform the same process.

To get a deeper clean, a solution of baking soda and water can be sprayed on the carpet or put in your steam cleaner. However, if you are using a baking soda solution in your steam cleaner, be sure that the baking soda has fully dissolved in the water before use. You could also spray your baking soda solution on the carpet and then run the steam cleaner over it using pure water or the vinegar solution previously mentioned for even better cleaning and stain removal.

Now that you know a few of the ways that you can naturally clean your carpets, you can get started and know that you are doing everything you can to keep your home clean and healthy for you and your family.

About Me

reducing your workload around the holidays

I do look forward to all of the holidays each year. These are the days that I know that my home will be filled with my closest friends and the family that I don't get to see often enough. Preparing the house for company is a lot of work that I used to do on my own. I would spend days cleaning, organizing and rearranging things. Two years ago, I started hiring a cleaning service to come out a day or two before the holidays to perform a deep cleaning of everything. If you struggle to find the time to get your house ready for the holidays, read through the tips on my blog to find ways to make it less work for yourself.
